Film on Bhikkhu Sumedha. Buddhist monk and painter.
In the tropical jungle in the surroundings of Kandy in Sri Lanka an eremite cave is located, inhabited by Buddhist monks for more then 2000 years. There lived the extraordinary monk Bhikkhu Sumedha (with German passport) until the end of 2006. Following the oldest path of Buddha, the Theravada tradition within Buddhism, this monk craved a soothing of the senses and the spirit by attempting to create a balance between emotion and intellect therein for over 25 years. He pursued the path of the Dhamma as it is prescribed in the Pali Canon. All the while he never stopped being a painter. The film was shot 25 days before his death – and in the aftermath. The monk was extraordinarily clear minded, looking forward to his death and back to all his achievements through deep meditation , devotion and art.
This is a real documentary of a personality (monk and artist alike) of the Theravada Buddhism in Sri Lanka; it is unrepeatable, it is not rehearsed, not even intended. It evolved out of personal notes and documentation material and became the last heritage and witness of an extraordinary eremite and painter of the Buddhist school of thought.

From
an isolationist nation at the end of World War One, the US today has
bases in over ninety countries. No other nation has been able to project
military power as the US does today. But is such an involvement sustainable?
Despite its might, the US is shrinking in terms of population and economic
power in relation to the rest of the world.
So, what would happen should the United States leave the international
scene, and become again a "normal nation", a republic, and
not an empire?
