About The Festival

The International Film Festival Egypt 2009 is for filmmakers, video artists and those working with the 'moving image' from all over the the world.

This is the festival that honours the individual voice. Its mission is to provide a worldwide public forum for independent and experimental film makers and to offer educational outreach.

Created as an alternative to commercial cinema and mainstream film festivals, our 5 day - long festival aims to be enlightening as well as entertaining.

The International Film Festival Egypt 2009 will run between Sunday April 5th and Thursday April 9th in Cairo. A Gala Awards Banquet will be held on the evening of April 9th when film makers will receive their awards.

Chairman's Message:

Ladies and gentlemen, believe it or not, I am a professor of medicine, at Cairo University and all of a sudden I am the chairman of El Sawy International film festival. Indeed, it’s a great pleasure to be a member of the organizing team of the festival that will take place in the glorious capital of Egypt, the cradle of civilization and Hollywood of the Middle East !

This festival not only will give a chance for independent filmmakers to show their work internationally and to declare their visions out loud, but also will give the opportunity for the whole community to mingle in a familial and warm atmosphere.

If you are looking for a unique life experience, then you should consider to attend this festival, and don’t worry if you get sick, I will be there for you!
